PearlHarbor-Car Hit by AA Shells

Anti-aircraft shells hit the civilian car killing those inside near Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941.

Adams and McCabe families returning home from mass at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Kaneohe (Kaneohe), when they saw the Japanese bombing of the local base of naval aviation (Bay Bay Naval Air Station). They decided that this is just theory. After that they heard on the radio that all employees of Pearl Harbor shipyard should come to work. Following this direction, Joseph Adams, 50, his 18-year-old son, John Jr., Joseph McCabe Sr., 43, and nephew 23-year-old David Kahookele got in the car. They drove down Pali Highway and headed to Pearl Harbor. At Judd Street, near Iholena Street, their car was hit by anti-aircraft shells and killed all four. Victim of this tragic accident was also a 12-year-old Matilda Faufata, who stood near the doorway of her home. Splinters of the projectile wounded her in the chest and she died on the way to the hospital.
