TBD Devastator - 6 Jul 1937 - wing floats inflated

This photograph taken on July 6, 1937- seventy-three years ago today- shows a TBD Devastator torpedo-bomber with its wing floats inflated. These were employed in the event the aircraft had to ditch at sea, keeping the plane afloat so that it could be recovered if the forced landing occurred near a ship.
